NYC Puppy Training with a Country Twist: House Training, Crate Training & Socialization Support In and Out of the City

Raising a puppy in New York City is equal parts joy and chaos. Between house training accidents, early-morning whining, and sidewalk drama with every passing dog or stroller, it’s no wonder so many puppy parents are looking for a better way.

That’s where we come in.

At Far Fetched Acres, we’re your city and country puppy training partner—offering expert support both in your NYC apartment and at our Puppy Camp on 127 peaceful, wooded acres in the Hudson Valley. We help urban pups build foundational skills like house training, crate training, and safe socialization in a calm, structured environment—while partnering with you at home to reinforce those gains in the real world.

House Training & Crate Training—Without the Elevator Meltdowns

Consistency is everything when raising a puppy, but NYC living makes it hard to stick to a reliable potty or crate routine. At Puppy Camp, we follow a strict house training schedule and use a mix of outdoor pavement and grassy areas to teach your pup exactly where and when to go.

We’re also experts in crate training. With around-the-clock support and structured quiet time, we work through the typical whining and adjustment that comes with early crate use. We offer the structure they need and the patience they deserve as they develop lifelong independence skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Socialization That’s Actually Safe (Not Just Exposure)

Socialization isn’t just exposure—it’s safe exposure paired with positive associations. Tangled leashes, crowded daycares, and overstimulating dog parks often lead to confusing or even scary interactions. At Puppy Camp, we do things differently.

Our campers socialize with fully vaccinated, temperament-screened ambassador dogs under the supervision of experienced trainers. They meet other puppies in small, well-matched playgroups that prioritize emotional safety and respect for thresholds.

We also incorporate real-life triggers like city strollers, scooters, bikes, and even a puppy jungle gym, all introduced gradually and positively. It’s not flooding—it’s thoughtful, curated learning that builds confidence without overwhelm. This is mindful socialization, rooted in behavior science and our decades of experience with NYC dogs.

Start at 8 Weeks: Because Quarantine Isn’t the Safer Choice

We welcome puppies starting at 8 weeks old, following modern behavioral science and the guidance of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB):

“The primary and most important time for puppy socialization is the first three months of life… Incomplete or improper socialization during this important time can increase the risk of behavioral problems later in life. Behavioral issues, not infectious diseases, are the number one cause of death for dogs under three years of age.”

While many new owners are told to wait on socialization until vaccinations are complete, this requested (and frankly dangerous) quarantine can lead to lifelong social deficits, anxiety, or fear-based behaviors. At Far Fetched Acres, we balance early socialization with strict health protocols to provide both safety and vital learning during this critical window.

We’re with You in the City, Too

The real magic? We don’t just train your puppy at camp—we continue the journey with you back in the city.

Our NYC-based training team offers private lessons in your home and neighborhood, helping to reinforce everything your puppy learned during camp. We even offer pre-puppy consults to help you prepare your apartment, create your schedule, and plan for a smooth Gotcha Day.

From the start of your puppy journey to the long haul ahead, we’re your integrated city and country support system—one team, consistent communication, and a seamless training experience across environments.

From Puppy Camper to Lifelong Family Member

Our Puppy Campers don’t just learn and leave. Many grow up with us—returning again and again for holidays, family travel, or just to romp with familiar friends. We know their story. We’ve watched them grow. And we’re proud to offer continuity of care, support, and joyful connection through every stage of your dog’s life.

A Joyful, Positive Experience—for Both of You

At the end of the day, Puppy Camp should feel good. We send daily photo updates, provide compassionate care, and make every experience positive, enriched, and deeply personalized.
