Country Boarding vs City

Why NYC Dogs Deserve a Country Dog Camp

If you’re an NYC dog parent, we already know one thing: you’re devoted. You’ve got the best leash, the best vet, the best walker. With that same care comes the search for something more than just a place to “board your dog”—you want a second home. A trusted vacation spot. A real dog camp where your pup can run, rest, and return again and again.

And when it comes to dog boarding in New York City, the options can feel… limiting. Most city facilities are built around a daycare model—dogs coming and going all day long, creating a revolving door of energy, arousal, and unpredictability. It sounds social, but it’s stressful. Dogs are constantly forced to adjust to new personalities and energy levels, with no real time to decompress.

Even “crate-free” can sound enticing—until you realize that dogs of all sizes, ages, and needs are lumped into overstimulating, shared spaces. There’s no room for true rest—just a young, bounding Labrador and a senior pup trying to nap in the same chaotic room.

Now imagine this:

Your dog bounding through open fields, not just exercised—but fulfilled. Napping in a private, cozy space scented with their own belongings. Developing a rhythm they can depend on—when meals happen, when their group gathers, when the whole building goes quiet for a midday rest.

That’s life at Far Fetched Acres, a luxury dog camp for NYC dogs, located just two hours north of the city in the Hudson Valley. Set on 127 secluded acres with a 10,000-square-foot indoor facility, we’ve created a true canine retreat—designed for restoration, enrichment, and joy.

Every camper has their own designated space—ranging from crate-training dens to spacious private suites for seniors or dogs who need a little more privacy. Our schedule mirrors a dog’s natural needs: rest, structure, safe socialization, and the ability to exhale.

And unlike typical boarding, this isn’t a revolving door. Dogs stay a minimum of three days, joining a consistent camp group that doesn’t change daily. They develop habits, friendships, and a sense of place. Many come back again and again—meeting up with the same camp pals throughout the year, just like kids returning to summer camp or families gathering for the holidays.

More Than a Service—A Lifelong Relationship

Over the years, our NYC clients have told us again and again: this isn’t just dog boarding—it’s an experience. From the moment you drop off to the day you reunite, you feel connected. We send daily photos, share real-time updates, and build real relationships—with both our dogs and their humans.

We become an extension of your dog’s life. From puppyhood and early camp days to their golden years, we grow with your dog. We know their quirks, their cues, and what makes them feel safe and happy.

Our team meets twice daily to review every camper’s health and behavior. We perform gentle daily body checks (like a mini wellness visit) and grooming, and we send every dog home with a complimentary bath—because all that country fun can stay in the country.

We also offer pickup and drop-off service in NYC, making it seamless for you. While you’re away, your dog is at camp—romping, resting, and reconnecting with a place that truly feels like their own.

When you return? They’ll be clean, calm, and so happy to see you—and you’ll feel just as good knowing you gave them the vacation they deserve.
