All-Inclusive Puppy Training on 127 Acres of Freedom

Bringing home a new puppy is an exciting and joyful experience, but those early months are crucial for shaping their future. Puppy training during this stage is essential, as puppyhood is the prime time for socialization, learning, and building confidence—laying the foundation for a well-mannered, happy, and adaptable companion. If you’re looking for puppy training near New York City that combines expert guidance with a countryside retreat, Far Fetched Acres is the perfect fit.

Give Your Puppy the Best Start

At Far Fetched Acres, our puppy training services are designed to give your pup the best possible start in life. Our expert trainers undergo extensive training in puppy behavior, foundational skills, and—of course—plenty of belly rubs. Through gentle handling, positive reinforcement, and carefully curated socialization exercises, we help puppies learn, play, and grow in a safe, structured environment.

Socialization at this stage helps prevent fear and reactivity later in life. With supervised playgroups, exposure to new people and sounds, and confidence-building exercises, your puppy will gain the tools to become a calm, curious, and well-adjusted adult dog. At Far Fetched Acres Puppy Camp, your beloved pup will build confidence, practice essential manners, and develop the social skills they need to thrive—setting them up for a lifetime of success and happiness.

An Outdoor Classroom for City Pups

Just two hours north of NYC, Far Fetched Acres offers something city life simply can’t: room to roam and silent country nights. Nestled on 127 acres of fields, forest, and sky, our Hudson Valley retreat gives puppies the freedom to stretch their legs and their minds. Here, they don’t just socialize—they explore, engage, and grow in a space built for curiosity and calm. Our 10,000 state-of-the-art board and train facility was designed from the ground up to support both safety and stimulation, with behavior-informed playgroups, enriching routines, and wide-open nature right outside the door.

Get to Know Our Training Team & Philosophy

We believe dogs learn best when they feel safe, seen, and supported. That’s why our entire training approach is rooted in relationship-based, force-free methods. Our trainers don’t use fear, intimidation, or punishment. Instead, we reinforce the behaviors we want to see—through clarity, kindness, and expert guidance. Training is never one-size-fits-all. Each puppy's plan is personalized based on temperament, behavior, and your long-term goals.

Sara Munson

Director of Behavior & Trainer Development

I discovered my passion for canine behavior while volunteering at Glendale Humane Society, where I mentored with Paul Owens, the Original Dog Whisperer, and learned the power of positive, science-based training. I went on to become the first trainer — and later co-owner — at Tully’s Training in Los Angeles, and later served as Program Director for K9 Youth Alliance, helping kids and shelter dogs grow together through empathy and connection. Now a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and Applied Animal Behaviorist, I’m thrilled to bring my experience to Far Fetched Acres, where I love helping dogs and their humans build confidence and understanding. When I’m not immersed in the dog-human world, I enjoy dancing, strength training, seeing live music, reading, cooking, and watching scary movies!

Jeanette Kelso

Director of Training

I grew up showing Shelties in Agility and Obedience and quickly learned at an early age how much dogs teach us when we slow down and listen. After moving to NYC, I apprenticed with Colleen Safford and fell in love with turning training into a two-way conversation — helping dogs thrive in apartments, busy families, and beyond. Today, I split my time between the city and Far Fetched Acres, where I love watching dogs exhale, play, and grow. I share my Brooklyn home with my Samoyed, Marshy, who keeps me learning and laughing through every stage of life.

Kate Walsh, KPA-CTP

Lead Trainer

I’ve been fascinated by dogs for as long as I can remember — their emotions, their signals, and their incredible ability to love us unconditionally. My journey began as a volunteer puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind and led me to earn my Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA-CTP) credential, one of the most respected programs in the field. I rely on positive, science-based methods that build trust and confidence, helping dogs learn at their own pace and succeed without fear. Whether I’m training, walking, or just spending time with your pup, my goal is always the same: to create moments where they feel happy, relaxed, and free to be themselves.

"This has been one long and fun stay for Hudson. Team FFA has set, once again, the bar quite high. Let's hope we can continue to keep him entertained and mentally stimulated at home. :)”

Puppy Camp FAQs

  • We welcome puppies up to 20 weeks of age. The earlier they start, the more they benefit from this critical socialization window.

  • It depends on your goals and your puppy’s needs. We recommend a minimum 5-day stay for the biggest impact, though even shorter visits can be valuable. Many puppy parents notice improvements in confidence, calmness, and responsiveness within just a few days — especially when they follow up consistently at home.

  • Yes! We offer complimentary round-trip transportation on Mondays and Thursdays within Manhattan, plus select Brooklyn neighborhoods — making NYC puppy training easy and accessible for busy dog parents.

  • We use force-free, relationship-based training grounded in positive reinforcement and behavioral science. This means we reward desirable behaviors rather than punish unwanted ones. Our approach builds trust, reduces stress, and helps puppies learn with clarity, consistency, and compassion — never fear or intimidation.

  • We provide most essentials — including food (unless your pup has a special diet), grooming tools, and bedding. A favorite toy or comfort item is always welcome!
