THE BENEFITS OF SCIENCE-BASED DOG TRAINING AND POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT

Owning a dog can be one of the most rewarding experiences as a human being, but it can also be a large responsibility. To full reap the rewards dogs have to give, its important to set them up for success with training. Finding a training method that will work for your pup can be a daunting mission as a pet parent. At Far Fetched Acres, we take the guess work out of the best training method.

In recent years, Positive Reinforcement Dog Training has gained popularity based on the model being backed by behavioral science and psychology. Today, most people involved in dog training adhere to a model that utilizes positive reinforcement to bring about the positive behaviors they want to see in a dog. A more “old-school” training method determined that harsh instruction and punishment was the best way to train a dog but as more information is discovered about animal sciences, it was determined that simply was not true.

Here at Far Fetched Acres, our entire team incorporates positive reinforcement consistently through all of our services. We believe that ignoring unwanted behaviors and rewarding the desired behaviors is the best way to teach your pet. This is believed to be the best method for dog training because once the desired behavior has been learned, the relationship between the human and the animal becomes less about training and more about connecting and communicating.

Over the past two decades, a number of formal studies have been conducted in Behavioral Science. The fundamental objective is the same as it is with humans: to get the subject to choose the appropriate behavior rather than feeling coerced into it through fear and intimidation. Fear, intimidation, and pressure can inconsitently bring about the desired response, while positive reinforcement will bring about the desired long term changed behavior.
